The Fashion Industry is continuing to grow and gain more attention, not only fashion designers but also by everyday people. Runways showcase central outfits but aren’t idealistic for casual wear. From New York Fashion Week, which styles would we actually wear day to day?

Graphic Tees

Graphic tees act as a good basic in anyone’s closet. They can be worn solo or layered underneath a jacket. There is a wide range of designs, brands, colors, prices, and cuts to choose from. Brands such as Thrasher and Stussy’s most popular shirts only have their logo on the front. Switch out a traditional striped black and white shirt for a red and black striped shirt. Don’t be afraid to go up a size and wear it baggy rather than fitted.

Souvenir Jacket/Sukajan

Sukajans, otherwise known as souvenir jackets, are a revised look to last year’s traditional bomber jacket. Illustrations of dragons and tigers showcase the obvious Asian influences. Typically made with a silky fabric, they can be comfortably worn in almost all types of weather.

Leather Jackets

Leather jackets have been around for a long time, but modern flares help modernize the look. “Worn out” leather fabric can make a jacket look more vintage, like an old school biker jacket. A fitted leather jacket can appear more chic and trendy compared to a non-fitted one. You don’t have to stick with traditional black either; feel free to switch it up with colors such as red or white.

Earth/Nude Tones

Although bomber jackets in army green have been in since last year, army green is starting to loose style because every brand now has their own take. Shirts and outerwear especially have shifted to brownish and pinkish nude tones. Kanye West’s fashion line, Yeezy, centrally focuses on beige, tan, and pink colors for all their collection pieces.

Velvet/Satin/Suede

Velvet, satin, and suede fabrics have grown in popularity the past few months. One of the most demanded colors is dusty rose because of its feminine, yet easily masculine color tone that could be paired with many other colors.

Casual Shoes

Sneakers are a basic that can be customized to be as simple or custom as you want. Vans, Converse, Adidas, and Nike are brands having a long-standing reputation of being casual and comfortable. Some shoes that have recently become popular are Adidas Ultra-Boosts, Chelsea Boots, and Vans Old-Skools.

Not So Simple Denim

Jeans are nothing new, but the basics get boring pretty fast. Once in awhile, try experimenting with the color and fit. Black jeans for example match with nearly everything, but still give a wardrobe a new “umph”. Faded and bleached denim goes well with any light colored shirt. Rips in jeans aren’t anything revolutionary either, but a new style has been emerging on social media through fashion blogs. Frayed jeans are becoming more popular. Recently, brands such as Fear of God have become heavily sought after because of their hand distressed jeans, often worn by celebrities like Kanye West. Lighter-colored jeans with holes in the knees and thighs with zippers towards the bottom of the pants have become especially popular.

Baseball Cap

Snapbacks are long out of style, but the new casual “throw-on” dad hat with the curved bill and round head has recently become very popular. The hat can make an outfit appear more sporty or simply just cover up messy hair on a bad hair day. They come in a variety of colors and fabrics, some having unique embroidery, including images and text. The hats color and flare can instantly make an outfit stylishly simple.
