Winter in Southern California means heat waves on Christmas and sunny beach days on the weekends. But this year, us Southern Californians got a chilly winter — minus the snow.

Take advantage of this glorious winter weather and get outside and experience some holiday joy. Below is a list of some local holiday-themed events that can be enjoyed with friends and family alike.

 

 

 

Snow Day LA

Snow Day LA will satisfy your want of crisp, cold snow here in Southern California’s dry, excruciatingly hot weather. Located in Echo Park next to Dodgers Stadium, the temporary nine-acre tubing park prices start at $12 and includes sleds of fun. The excursion will be open until December 23 and tickets must be bought in advance.

Enchanted Forest of Light

Wizard of Oz meets Christmas light show, Descanso Garden’s Enchanted Forest of Light will be having a one-mile, interactive light show until January 8. The show has 10 different light displays, including rainbow colored trees, all with a twist on the classic holiday light show. Descanso Gardens is located above Pasadena and timed-entry tickets cost $28 and should be bought in advance.

L.A. Zoo Lights

Ever want to go to somewhere after hours and explore the mystery of the night? The L.A. Zoo is even more alive during the holidays. With lights galore, the L.A. Zoo Lights has animal-themed LEDs, water shows, lasers, and 3D projections. The attraction will be going through January 8 and tickets cost as low as $11 and must be bought in advance.

Pershing Square Ice Rink

It may not be snowing or surrounded by 90-story high buildings, but the Pershing Square Ice Skating Rink is the closest thing we have to experiencing the iconic Rockefeller Ice Skating Rink. Enjoy a night of ice skating under the lights in Downtown LA, with prices starting as low as $9 until January 16.

Manhattan Beach Pier Fireworks

Imagine Fourth of July and add some festive holiday spirit and hot cocoa, the Manhattan Beach Pier will have a Christmas-inspired firework show on December 11 at 7PM. Leading up to the firework show, there will be games, music, and other festivities throughout the day, all free of charge.

Robolights in Palm Springs

The Robolights in Palm Springs is something everyone is Southern California must see at one point or another. The quirky sculptures are made out of various, seemingly random, items and fill the whole entire 2-acre property. Christmas-themed inflatables and millions of dazzling lights appear only during Christmas time. The Robolights is a free event; although donations are encouraged to help fund the lights in the future. The must-see exhibit is located at 1077 E Granvia Valmonte, Palm Springs, CA 92262.

 

Holiday Movie Night at The Park in DTLA

Grab some friends, a fuzzy blanket, and a Starbucks Snickerdoodle Hot Chocolate and experience the fulfillment of an outdoor movie with other movie-lovers during the showing of Four Christmases (PG-13) at The Plaza in Downtown L.A. on December 16. Doors will open at 6PM, along with food and music, and the movie will start at 7PM. Tickets are $5 and must be bought in advance.
