This year’s Rotary End Polio Now Jog-a-Thon will be hosted at Fullerton Union High School’s newly renovated stadium. The event, which starts at 9 a.m. tomorrow, is dedicated to help end Polio—an easily preventable virus which causes paralysis and muscle loss.

The jog-a-thon offers an easy way to become involved in the Fullerton community while contributing to a charitable cause. Booths with free food and refreshments will be set up on the field for participants and organizers. All the Arts programs, such as dance and choir, from Fullerton-based middle and high schools will provide entertainment.

“Thanks to contributors such as Rotary International and the donations they receive from events such as the Jog-a-Thon, they’ve been able to contribute and develop to find a cure for [Polio],” said senior Brittany Ruiz, president of the FUHS National Honors Society (NHS).

Many FUHS clubs will attend tomorrow’s event. Soccer and basketball will run for the cause; AVID, Key Club, NHS/CSF, Interact and STEAM Club will also participate. Some clubs will also be awarding service hours.

“You can run, you can gallop, you can do whatever you want as long as you walk. I think that’s the purpose of it, you know,” said Ruiz. The annual event encourages everyone in the area to join in and contribute to the cause. Participants can donate to Rotary International and walk laps in the jog-a-thon.

Rotary International has already helped eradicate 99 percent of Polio around the world. The foundation strives to cure the virus once and for all. Find more about how you can help here: http://www.rotaryjogathon.com/
