Movie Review: Avengers: Endgame

The Marvel Cinematic Universe became a part of my life after Marvel’s 2012 release of The Avengers, where the world witnessed the first on-screen live-action gathering of the popular Marvel superhero team. The thrill level I felt here only extended with each new movie releasing, culminating with the release of last year’s Avengers: Infinity War. Audiences around the world stood and cheered for the Avengers in their battle against Thanos.

But, all good things must end, and the current era of the MCU has come to an end. The release of the highly-anticipated Avengers: Endgame has already broken box office records around the world with a $60 million opening, topping Star Wars: The Force Awakens.  Following the Marvel universe after the devastating Infinity War, where Thanos (Josh Brolin) decimated half of all life with a snap of his fingers, Endgame sees the surviving Avengers gather together once again to try and find a way to bring back their vanquished allies.

Ending an 11-part story arc is no small feat, but this film accomplishes it in an amazing way. Every character that has been with the MCU since the beginning receives lots of character emphasis, allowing them to branch out and truly band together as a team to fight Thanos.

The film’s visuals are exceptional, with emphasis on the motion-capture animation used to depict Thanos and Rocket. Audio is also incredible, realistically rendering the sounds of the Infinity Stones, Iron Man’s repulsor blasts, and more thrills.

The heaviest factor in Endgame is the emotional power behind each of the characters. Every character is given an opportunity to show their true selves, allowing every audience member connect. The grief the characters felt truly affected me, leaving me sobbing through nearly half the movie.

Sparks fly in Avengers: Endgame as the Avengers truly live up to their name, fighting not just to protect Earth, but to avenge it. The Avengers never have faced higher stakes, and Endgame absolutely delivers on everything, and more.
