The Indians (9-2, 18-8-1) sit first in league and will be heading into their last league game of the season against second place Ocean View (7-4, 11-6) on Tuesday. The team has secured its victory as Empire League Champions despite having one game left in the season, marking its four-peat victory as league champs.

The team started off its league season with an 8-1 win against Tustin (6-4-1, 11-15-1) on March 25, followed by another 8-3 victory against Calvary Chapel (1-9-1, 10-16-1) on March 28.

After a series of tournaments outside of league, which helped the players hone their skills going deeper into the league season, the Indians faced a close game against Ocean View on April 8. The score was tied 0-0 until the top of the 5th inning when Ocean View scored 3 runs due to an error in the outfield and the ball getting past the catcher twice. The team made a comeback in the 6th with 3 runs to tie the game thanks to sophomore Mason Park who was able to hit a double into right field, then make it to third on a pass ball, to restart game momentum. Senior Lazer Rojas hit a double over the right-fielder’s head to score the winning run in the bottom of the 7th, closing out the game with a 4-3 win. The Indians faced Ocean View for the second time on April 11 and won with a final score of 10-5.

Although the team has faced its fair share of losses this season, the players have been able to overcome these temporary slumps with talent and determination but also a fun spirit.

“I think at some point it’s just about having fun, because there’s levels to being intense, but you have to be able to enjoy the game, or else you won’t be able to be intense about the game,” Park said.

This past week, the Indians faced off against the current 4th place Laguna Hills (3-4, 13-12). The Indians won in a landslide across all three games: 8-1 on April 29, 4-0 on April 30, and 7-1 on May 2.

The team currently sits as the top seed in Division 3 CIF and has hopes of making a successful run this year to add a CIF championship to its list of victories.
