Brittany Ruiz
Brittany Ruiz takes ownership of FUHS’s academic and extracurricular activities, making the most out of her intellectual curiosity and desire to learn.
Ruiz not only excels as yearbook editor-in-chief, Make a Wish Club founder, Steam Club Engineering Vice President and NHS President, but is also trilingual, co-salutatorian and a Full IB Diploma student.
Senior Brittany Ruiz’s experience as a Full IB student differs from most of her peers’.
“I think most times students describe Full IB as death, as in they burn out. Although I do agree that it is difficult, I actually really enjoyed it,” Ruiz said. “I think that just being in the IB Diploma just helped me to continue to challenge myself as a student and a person.”
Ruiz discovered her passion for history through the Full IB Diploma course, specifically in AP European History, AP US History and IB History of the Americas. Ruiz says that one of her proudest achievements include being awarded student of the month in each of these rigorous classes.
Ruiz credits history teachers Mike Muhovich, David Shanebeck, and Mark Henderson for motivating and challenging her to reach her full potential.
“I definitely wouldn’t have gotten where I am being such amazing people. I think it was just being surrounded by amazing people teacher, admin, students friends family that inspired me every day to be better and help out the world. It keeps pushing me making me never want to give up.”
Ruiz plans to double major in history and international affairs at Brown University in the fall. After college, Ruiz hopes to pursue a career in education or government.
“The main thing I want to do in life is to help the future generation of students and leaders of the world express themselves find outlets that they can go towards,” Ruiz said. “I feel that becoming a teacher or going into government will help me do that. Just help me be happy and i think that’s really important.”
