On Feb. 7 ASB will host International Fullerton’s Festival. Students can expect a double assembly and student performances.
Sophomore Katie Bae says the decision to rename the event from International Food Fair to International Fullerton’s Festival was prompted by a lack of student enthusiasm. When ASB sent out an interest form asking for participants, few signed up.
“There will not be an International Food Festival since we did not have enough students sign up,” Bae said. “It was hard to kickstart.”
Sophomore Olivia Chung noted that many clubs declined to even fill out the interest form.
“Our clubs here at school are not as involved culturally,” Chung said.
This speaks to a broader issue the Tribe Tribune has taken notice of. Clubs on campus are dwindling, and students are reluctant to take part in school events.
What is distinct about Fullerton is the multiethnic student body. Yet, we have few clubs that reflect this.
Despite this, Sophomore Haleigh Garabedian remains optimistic that students will come to embrace a food festival. She sees ASB’s recent efforts as a trial run.
“I think that eventually we will get to make this bigger,” said Garabedian. “We just need to introduce it first.”
The solution?
“This year we are doing an assembly,” said Garabedian. “In the future, we hope to get the PTSA involved.”
In the meantime, Bae has a message for students.
“Please participate because we have a diverse campus that is worth celebrating.”
