The world supports the Czech Republic’s decision to change it’s name to Czechia.

Unknown to most, as of last April the Czech Republic has requested to be called “Czechia”. It is now the official short name of the country in English-speaking languages.

The foreign minister Lubomír Zaorálek claimed the country kept it under covers and wanted the name to catch on by itself rather than formally informing the world on their big decision.

Most students at FUHS had fairly positive things to say about the big name change.

“Alright, that’s cool. If they want to change it, they can change it,” said sophomore Alon Rodriguez. “It’s better to be organic than anything.”

Others thought the name change was a hoax.

“Is this for reals?” junior Logan Manjarres said. “I feel like this is fake.”

The U.S. has backed Czechia’s decision since July and the United Kingdom decided to call the country Czechia on all government documents as of the end of September.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) even made the new country’s name official in the English language on Sept. 28.
