As the prom season quickly approaches, many FUHS students are busy finding prom dates, the perfect dress, beautiful picture locations, and planning the events before and after the night. But, with the prom season comes the prom disasters.

Junior Alexandra Pace went to Prom as a sophomore.

“I felt really excited being a sophomore and I was hopeful for a fun night,” Pace said. “The venue was beautiful and super cool, I had pretty high expectations.” Last year, prom took place at Angel’s Stadium.

Blinded by the glamour of it all, Pace didn’t expect the event that followed. “Because [my boyfriend’s friend] didn’t want to dance with his girlfriend, my boyfriend didn’t want to dance with me,” said Pace. “I was very mad and sad, and after that I stormed off to the bathroom. He came and we apologized to each other.”

Though Pace’s night had a minor setback, she still was able to enjoy prom with her friends. “Overall Prom was a positive experience I really liked the venue just the whole thing with the dancing put a damper on my night,” Pace said. “I am very excited for [this year’s prom] and I think it’s going to be great.”

Non-dancing dates aren’t a common prom disaster. Oftentimes, one’s appearance is the most stressful aspect of going to prom. Finding a dress and deciding on a hair and makeup “look” can be a particularly daunting task. Senior, Jordan Browne’s prom disaster took place before prom had even begun.

“It being my first prom, I was excited because I was going with a huge group of friends and by the location and theme, I knew the dance was going to be fun,” Browne said.  

“My hair dresser that I usually go to was full so I had to go to someone new.” Browne continued, “I showed her a picture of a hairstyle on Pinterest and it turned out completely different. The curls were falling out and it was just so messy.”

Browne’s expectation of her hairstyle was diminished. “I ended up going to the car and crying.”

Despite the setback, Browne remained positive, “taking the prom pictures was fun, the dinner was good, and so was the dance.”

Though your fellow classmates endured some prom disasters, this year will surely not disappoint. To avoid a disaster happening at Prom, you can stash a bottle of hairspray in your car to help tame any hairstyle without damaging it, bring back up shoes to coat check if your feet become sore, and lastly, be sure to have fun for Prom night will not disappoint. Prom will take place on Mar. 18 at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach.
