The FUHS Boys Tennis team started off their season on a good note, winning their first matches against Servite High School, Magnolia High School, and La Mirada High School.

Tennis placed third in League last season, so the team hopes to go even further this season.

Sophomore Chris Tran has high hopes for his second year in tennis.

“We’re just trying to win, and hopefully make CIF,” Tran said.

Tran hopes to use his improved performance to help the team go further.

“I’ve improved my movements,” Tran said. “I’m quicker, and my serve is faster. I think that will really help the team in competition.”

Senior Andrew Caluya wants to establish a sense of friendship with the rest of the team for this season.

“I’ve played on the team every year, and it’s always more fun when the players all know each other,” Caluya said.

The team is practicing every day, doing various drill and exercises to prepare for all their matches.

“Our coach teaches us to take every practice seriously,” Caluya said. “Because every match will feel like just another practice.”

Caluya believes that fellowship between the team is the most important part of the sport.

“We lose together, we win together,” Caluya said. “It’s all part of being a team.”

Best of luck to the FUHS Boys Tennis team on their upcoming season!
