JROTC cadets to honor veterans this weekend

Students, staff and community members are invited to watch FUHS’s JROTC cadets participate in the Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 25 at 10 a.m. at Loma Vista Memorial Park on Bastanchury Road in Fullerton.
The cadets will also participate in the “Memorial Day at Loma Vista – USA 250th Birth Year” observance flag placement ceremony on Saturday, May 23, from 8-10 a.m. During this event, cadets will place American flags on the final resting places of more than 4,400 veterans buried at Loma Vista Memorial Park.
Loma Vista Memorial Park serves as the resting place for veterans who served the nation across more than 160 years of military history.
The cadets will have a busy week as they are also scheduled to assist during the graduation ceremony on May 27.
Construction for new facilities scheduled for summer

When students return to school in August, they may face new obstacles around building zones due to the construction of new athletic facilities. On July 26, the district is scheduled to begin demolition of the current athletic building, tennis courts, and parking lot behind the stadium.
The project will be complete with a dance studio, weight room, media room, golf simulators, athletic training room, multiple classrooms, and locker rooms.
Unfortunately, some athletes won’t be able to enjoy these new additions, as the plans are not set to be completed until January 2028.
Dance instructor Andrea Oberlander said she is excited to finally have an updated dance studio. “I will miss the character and charm of the old studio, but am very excited to have central air conditioning,” she said.
Principal Jon Caffrey said: “That dance room that we have? Love the creakiness of the floor, but what a bad building it’s become. It’s the oldest building on this campus that’s still functional for day to day besides the auditorium. Having one place to store everything will be great.”
Athletes will have more space to work out, train, and change into their sports uniforms. The new weight room will be an indoor-outdoor building, with new equipment and utilities.
While these new additions will be extremely beneficial to most teams, some sports will suffer major inconveniences. Principal Caffrey says that as of now, there are no plans to rebuild the tennis courts, and the team will have to practice at Fullerton College for at least three years.
